Make mine a Stevens

Getting one from boyds can be done online in minutes. On three stocks I have ordered, I have received the stock within a week. In my post, the stock was on an oversupply run, crazy deal for $25 unfinished. It cost more to ship than what I paid for the stock. You will note they use UPS only so be prepared to pay $40 or so upon purchase and $8 or so more at the post office. Regardless, these are phenominal stocksfor the price and you will not go wrong. With a DIYS Devcon bedding job and some elbow grease you will have a stock to be proud of.

If you would like to know how I attained my finish I'd be happy to advise...read on...
Sand to 220 grit, be real sure all fine scratches are removed. Use pure tung oil (I used the lee valley product). Three phases in the finish.
Phase 1. Seal the stock with 1tbs oil with 3tbs mineral spirits. Two coats, 4 days apart.
Phase 2. Close pores with a wet sand 300-600 grit. 50/50 mix oil/spirits. Two to three times getting all pores filled. Use fine touch with a non lint cloth, cross grain to push wet sanding "muck" into pores but not to remove the muck. 4 days between sandings.
Phase 3. Endless coats, 4 days apart. 75/25 oil/spirit mix. Let dry several hours to half a day and wipe off gently at first then harder over time as you get the finish into the wood cells. You will notice no build up of finish. It is truly an old school method, but produces spectacular result if you have the patience and time over several months.

The benefit...you scratch it, just add a little oil. Other "varnish style" finishes may need you to sand the entire stock down to wood to get a good result where you damage it. Yes...I do love oil finishes. Enjoy.

How many are licensed for export?

Jerry

Ya so true...unfortunately available doesn't always mean available to us in Canada.

Its great that stock makers are starting to include savage in there offerings though and also getting set up for export to Canada. There was and still are alot of companies who don't consider us worth their while.

We are really lucky to have a company like MDT who I am sure will be doing a savage version soon. :D

Bell and Carlson and Mcmillan are licensed now, as long as the person you order from Drop Ships. They send you a paper that basically says it's coming to you for personal use, and you're not reselling it. B&C are charging an additional $25.00 permit fee.

Unless the Dept of State rules have changed tremendously, 'personal use' means absolutely nothing.

I would be very curious to see the protocol change cause a terrorist would be using these devices for 'personal use' too....

McM and HS have been licensed for a long time and one of the very very few companies that are legally set up for export.

You still have to jump through the hoops that are required.

But laws change all the time

Be nice if a few more got licensed.

This is what's on the B&C site through aftermarket innovations:
*Canadian customers copy and paste this statement to your order in the Special Notes Box:

"I the above referenced purchaser, by my action of placing this purchase order with Aftermarket Innovations, Certify that I am a Canadian Registered Person and that I have complied with the import regulations of Canada and that an Import Certificate is not required for me to import the items listed above and that they are for installation on a civil use sporting firearm and that I will not divert, transship or re-export the items described herein without the prior approval of my Government. This purchase is for a non SME part and complies with SCA Canadian ITAR Exemption. USC 22CFR 126.5(b) Applicable."

Thanks for the info.

That is so funny. Don't you feel safer already.

As I said, laws change all the time.

Who knows, there might even be a dealer program in the not too distant future. That would be nice.

Ohhhhh yes, I feel safer. Clearly this is all about corporate protectionism, cmon anyway!

It is time to shoot 500m this weekend, the AI rounds are prepared, the Vs are waiting:)

Keep an eye for the winds that curl around that road to the right.

have fun and send them into the V bull....

I think you will quickly see that the 500m target IS much easier to hit then the 300m.
