Just wondering, from those who have done it and/or still do it, is there anything specific ,or any tips, that I have to do when converting 30-06 brass to 308 brass spec? I have a good bunch of 30-06 brass that I will no longer be using (selling my m1 Garand), and I want to re-purpose it for 308, as for some reason, everyone seems to scrape the ranges and I never find 308 brass. Thanks.

Can be done. Run into a trim die, hacksaw and file. Imperial sizing die wax might be a good idea. FL size, chamfer. Make sure the neck walls aren't too thick. The neck area is sized down body wall.

You could probably aneal, reform in a 308 die with the decapper removed and trim , but why bother they are both such commonly found calibers. I would just sell your 3006 and buy some once fired 308 brass from one of the vendors here.

I wouldn't bother. 308 brass is so common, just sell the 3006 brass and buy 308, or put up an offer on the EE to trade one for the other.

A lot of work for little gain.
I convert 30 06 brass to much less available calibers.
It eats up your time worse than visiting your in-laws. :)

It's super easy. First, you sell the 30-06 brass. Then you buy some 308 brass. All easily done on the EE.

Seriously, converting anything to 223 or 308 is a waste. They are the most available rifle calibre brass.

The problem with converting 30-06 cases to .308 is you will end up with thicker necks. And you can end up with not enough chamber neck clearance to let the case neck expand and higher pressures.

This depends on how thick the 30-06 cases are when the .308 neck is formed and if you plan on neck turning.

The Speer manual said you could make 7.65 Belgian Mauser cases from 30-06 cases. But the Remington 30-06 cases I formed to 7.65 had thick necks that were hard to chamber that did not have enough neck clearance.

And as stated above your better off selling the 30-06 cases and buying new .308 cases.

Below some food for thought and excessive shoulder bump.

Bottom line you can end up with tapered case necks that are too thick and forced to neck turn the cases.

My suggestion as well. Don't know where you're from, but if you live on Vancouver Island, I have some military 308 brass you can have for nothing.

Yea fair enough. If there is anyone who lives in the Edmonton area I can meet up and trade what I have for 308 brass and pay a few cents for each piece of brass

swapping narrows down your options. There are multiple ads on the ee from YEG area with 1F 308 brass in the $100-$110 dollar range for 500 pcs. Advertise the 30-06 brass on the ee separately and it will go much faster than only looking for a swap.
