Making 6.5x54ms brass from 30-30 brass

Why? Just buy it from TradeEx.
Haven't checked diameters, but if .30-30 could be used, you'd need a lathe to convert them.

Rim has to come off, and an extractor groove cut...all fiddly lathe work. Time consuming, and just not worth the effort if brass is available.

Tiriaq has given good advice.. Dave.

That didn't sound right when I read it, so I got my calipers out, and a .30-30 and a 6.5x54 round. Base diameter just ahead of the rim on the .30-30 is .415",( loading manual says it should be .421") on the 6.5, just ahead of the extractor groove is .446". The .30-30 is significantly shorter as well, 1.976 as opposed to 2.11" for the 6.5. Maybe someone on here has actually done it, but based on those measurements I wouldn't have thought it possible.

6.5x53R brass can be quite easily formed from .303 British cases.

How do you make them from 303's please share

6.5x53R = rimmed, aka, dutch mannlicher. No need to take the rim off the .303 to convert to the 6.5 rimmed. I just ran them through a full-length size die. I suppose you could make 6.5x54 Mannlicher-Schoenauer by turning the rims off and adding an extractor groove, but you'd need some sort of lathe.

look at the forth post on here.... i might just try this

"I found how to make .303 Savage cases from .30-30 cases by adding a .15" long ring of either .30-30 case body of a ring from .40 S&W cases.

A friend in Canada tried it for his .303 Savage and also found he could make 6.5x54MS cases from .30-30 cases by doing the same thing and then turning off the rim to body size by spinning the case in a drill and using a file, then make the extractor groove with a hacksaw blade the same way.

If they are available, .220 Swift cases will convert easily, again, have to turn off the rim and make an extractor groove.

.220 Swift cases are in current production, just .30-30 cases should be cheap or free."
