using the pistol grip just doesn't feel comfortable so I am trying to skinny this shotgun down a bit... would putting a tactical or folding stock help lighten it up or a after market fore-end. its gunna be my bush gun so the lighter the better

This is the lightest pump shot gun I know of. Your post doesn't explain much. Are you using a pistol grip and want to add a stock while making it lighter? Are you running a wooden stock, composite?

I have a butler creek folder on mine, I hated the shape, could not get my head low enought to effectively aim. Lucily I somehow lost it so I fabricated my own to fit.

I also have the factory composite butt stock which is very light and fairly comfortable however compactness for this gun trumps all

To do the aftermarket forend, you are going to need to swap in an OE removeable Mossberg forend tube, or something like the Promag tube HiCal sells.
The 88 comes with synthetic hardware already, so I cannot imagine an aftermarket stock / forend saving much weight; Hogue for comfort, sure, or something like ATI for adjustability and recoil reduction.

If you are looking for an alternative to the factory pistol grip, check eBay for Shockwave Technologies Raptor Grip Mossberg 500 which handles more comfortably.

I am running the synthetic shoulder stock that came with it.. I was using the pistol grip but it just didn't feel right shooting and couldn't get an accurate aiming anchor point, so I took it off... so I guess its about as light as its gunna get hey

You really don't want an exceptionally light 12 guage. They hurt to shoot. A shotgun with a pistol grip only is the most useless thing on the planet. A folding stock isn't much good either due to the time it takes to open. You'll never be fast enough to deal with, say Yogi, anyway.
I suspect issue with the pistol gripped stock may be the stock length vs the pistol grip itself. Start by checking that and fixing it as required, then look at other aftermarket stuff. As I recall, Mavericks are the same as Mossberg M500's so finding aftermarket stuff isn't a nightmare.

That gun is the lightest 12 guage I have ever carried, or would care to carry.

Stop now, and be happy with what you have.

Your shoulder will thank you.

Only thing I did to mine was cut about a half inch off of the buttstock.

thanks, I think I will keep it stock with the shoulder stock attached, I hope someone can answer me about my other thread regarding barrel compatibility with my 8 shot
