I can only install or remove those 3 and 5 round plastic duckbill SKS mags with the bolt locked. Mine won't go in or out of the mag well if the bolt is closed. Is that normal?

Can things be adjusted so they will install and come out with the bolt closed? I don't want to sacrifice functionality - like making the bolt hold open inoperative. Has anybody solved this yet?

I'm not familiar with these mags, but if you can disassemble the mag then you can often grind a bit off the legs of the follower to allow it to move farther into the mag body and provide enough slack to let you seat the mag against the underside of the bolt.

The SKS bolt ride under the feed lips. It has a T shape on the underside. Mill off the wings and mags will be insertable and removable with the bolt closed.

I briefly had an SKS that had the ability to change TAPCO mags with bolt closed but it removed the bolt hold open functionality

Yes, that's normal for the Sks, and yes, this is how you fix it.

yup, best to use a grinder to remove the "wings" at the bottom of the bolt.

Best to use a milling machine. A grinder is substandard, but effective, if crude.

beggars cant be choosers, lol... not many of us have access to a milling machine. if you do it with care , it should be fine. i've done it table grinder.
