As the title states....

Is it possible (legaly) to make your own handgun?

Yes/No ?

If yes, how?

If no, why not?

Thanks,

Alex

My guess would be that it is the same as manufacturing ANY firearm in Canada. You'd need to get the frame verified and registered.

Talk to Stormbringer, as he made his own .50, and I'm sure the steps are almost the same....

But then again, his .50 is non-restricted, and a handgun would be restricted. So yeah...maybe you can't make a handgun... uh... yeah I'm useless.

If in doubt, call the CFC! :)

Any PAL holder can build a restricted or non-restricted firearm from scratch and legally register it. He just can't sell it to anyone, ever.

Ok, that's fine.

You see what i want to build is based on a 10/22.

I smell a big no no from our wonderful government.....

This is what I want to build:

You are not manufacturing a handgun when you try to convert it from a rifle. It is prohibited to convert a rifle into a handgun. You can not do it.

You may not modify a firearm to a barrel length of less than 470mm and/or an OAL of 660mm.

I wouldn't modify it, it would come short.

Also, milling my own reciever is out of the question since that would make the cost very prohibitive...

Can a blank 10/22 reciever be registered as "oleks 22 handgun" (just a silly example of a new name for a new gun) as a restricted by a verifier?

Maybe I will call the CFC...

Ah, so you wouldn't be building one nor modifying one, you'd be importing a restricted fiream?

the bbl would be manufactured short... no cut downs... it's the reciever part that worries me. and yeah I could import it through questar.ca but again, this is just a question in regards to a build.
