Always pick up the Banff and Canmore papers, when I'm m there. Lots of interesting news that doesn't make it out of the valley. :)

There is a lot of people out there that do not understand the dangers of wild animals, I find the town of Banff wants those same animals inside the town to attract tourist, the same people who never get a chance to see them. But these are and people who have no experience with wild or domestic animals for that matter. I blame Parks Canada and the Town of Banff from not trying to keep these animals out of the town. I hope he sue's and is awarded millions.

nothing more entertaining then stupid tourists getting effed up by wildlife.

If you actually read the article you'd have noticed they said the guy tried to avoid the Elk and put distance between them. He never approached it intentionally. And as stated yes it's a national park but there are ways to discourage the animals from being right in town. I've been to Banff many times myself and am always cautious and very aware of watching out for the Elk, especially once out of my vehicle. I've always felt not having a system in place to try to deter the animals from coming into town is just a recipe for disaster for both the animal and people. Elk are very agressive animals at certain periods of the year.

Yeah! We should totally spend millions of dollars and do some studies and figure out why those pesky elk are so hard to keep out of their natural feeding/bedding areas. While we're at it I'd like the gov't to come up with a way to keep all those nuisance birds from crapping on my property. Maybe animal cops to stop animals from interfering with my Starbucks experience in the mountains. Maybe they could start handing out bubble wrap to protect us all from the environment. Just the other day a deer ran into the middle of the road in front of me! Why didn't anybody stop her!? I mean honestly there should be a way to educate these foolish animals from being such a nuisance.....

From your comments, you have never been to Banff then.

I never said anything about gov't studies but it wouldn't take more than the town employing or contracting a wildlife control officer using the available resources to herd them away from the main traffic corridors. I see it every day at my job. There is a person employed full time at the plant to deal with nuisance wildlife and she does a great job of keeping the birds and animals away from the work areas.
