Hey guys, decided to try bear hunting this year, met a guy who has a few sites he has baited over the years with great success. He showed me the spot and let me go to it. Some pretty decent success so far, hoping to spend the weekend in the stand with a camera see what is there prior to the season opener. Planning to let my son harvest one with his bow, it will be a first for both of us.

Hopefully those work, If so, I will add more as they become available

My hunting partner is on his way to my place as we speak. Baited on the 11th, the bait was hit on the 12th and the trail cam has a thousand pics on it. Can't wait to see what's coming in.

Well, 1080 pics including a timber wolf coming into the bait. I was amazed at how much bear activity there was in the mornings. As far as I can tell looking through the photos there are at least a dozen different bears hitting the site(including cubs), if not more. They seem to be feeding 24/7 with many photos of multiple bears into the bait at once. Going to be interesting walking into that bait with all the action.

Went back to the bait last Tuesday to reload bait, went out again Saturday morning and it was empty. reloaded and reset a new camera. went back in around 330 and had to push a bear off the barrel to get in the stand. Sat until about 7 and had 5 different bears come in, went back to retrieve card from camera and had 80 legit pictures of bears in 22 hrs. A beautiful brown/cinnamon color phase, and a few brutes that have backs at or above a standing 45 Gal drum. Its going to be awesome.

My hunting partner went and sat on our bait tonite. Got out early but did see 4 bears. The camera card had another 1000+ pictures on it. Hope to see them tomorrow before I take off for Pickle Lake. Lots of action with lots of bears! I love the fall!!!!

Question.;) Any Grizz to be found in Manitoba ? There were in the pre whiteman era and you have to wonder if there are still a few around, especially since they are to bound north of the province.

Grizz

My boy tagged his bear last Tuesday, with his bow. It was a bit of a traumatic experience for him as the shot was Spine / Liver, so it was bleeding and doing a death spin, I put a shot with the 30-30 into it to do the ethical thing, even though it nullifies the bow kill. Bear was his choice, liked the brown star on its chest, figure it was about 350 lb bear and waiting to hear skull size but figure about 17 inches. All and all pretty proud of him as he is only 12, and that's the first bow kill. The site is extremely active, had 250 bear pics in 2 1/2 days, with 6 bears being the most in one picture. Hope to go out a few more times with friends and get pics, maybe fill my tag if the right guy comes along. will add a few pictures.

It always amazes me how the bears seem to pop up from nowhere when you bait. I've never managed to come across one in the woods and I've been all through 10 quarters of land at all times of the year since I was old enough to wander around on my own. Put out a barrel of oats and old doughnut oil and twenty of the buggers will appear like magic.
