Manitoba Black bears and colour change

I've seen many many cinnamon coloured bears just north of Lake Manitoba, as well as some in the Parkland Region. I've seen the blonde phase mount of a neighbor's where I grew up, although never been lucky enough to see one in the wild. So yes, as mentioned previously there are all colour phases in Manitoba.

I've got some stunning photo's of a cinnamon phase sow, has to go close to 600 lb... was working on the north seal river years ago building a new lodge over the winter, she and her 2 yr old cub came out of hibernation. In a moment of young stupidity, I put out some cariboo meat and hid behind a snowmobile... the cub came in, and at 6ft I looked up and over the sled and snapped pictures. The cubs eyes went wide and he tore off into the bush.Don't worry... the sow got even... she came the next night and tore the seats right off the 2 snowmobiles.:)

Boomer why would the white one in the zoo not count.

His mother was road kill by the Pas MB (more or less 200 kms or so).

They brought him to the zoo so he would not end up being Raven food in a few weeks.

3 years ago near my place I saw a bear with 3 cubs and one was cinnamin phase. Have not seen them again all have been black.
