Is there any Manitoba trap and skeet members on here?
I ask as I have a love for shooting those damn orange disks and after meeting a couple of very nice reps from the club this past weekend at Cabelas and having a nice chat I was thinking about joining or at the very least coming out and having a go at it.

Any suggestions warnings or advice from any actual members of that club?

I am asking as every club has some quirks or rules that may not fit all and it is best to know up front what is ok and what is not ok plus it is nice to meet new people and perhaps make friends.

I'm a member there and love it. First time there make sure you tell Louise, the lady working the cash window, this is your first time and she'll make sure to have someone show you around.

I want the snow to go away so i can go play :) I hate snow.
 
I've been a member for about 7-8 years including some time on the BOD. The Winnipeg Trap and Skeet club has a lot to offer in clay target shooting;
American and International (bunker) Trap.
American and International Skeet.
5-Stand( a favorite of mine !)
Plus usually a couple of Sporting clay shoots of which we annually put on a "Shoot for the Cure" event to raise money to fight Breast Cancer.
It's always good to get new members, but it is not required to be one to make use of the club's assets. The general public is always welcome and if you call or e-mail Louise before coming out, loaner guns can be usually be arranged for those whom have none. New visitors I believe are eligible for "Try it you like it" programs, last year it was for Trap or Skeet 2 rounds for the price of 1 round at member price.
People are very friendly, just be safe! Always have the unloaded action open on the grounds, exercise muzzle control and awarness, only load your gun when its your turn and you are in the shooting station/ stand.
I am torn between getting in another ride on the sled and wanting the snow gone so I can get out there.

Feel free to ask me any other questions, I'd be happy to show you around and shoot a round or 3 this spring.

I have to ask what kind of loaner guns do you speak of?? what kind/type???
Muzzle control and awareness are my middle name, no worries there as for walking around fully loaded I have not done that since military days - I know range rules and safety but I truly appreciate the fact you posted on here for all to read as sometimes common sense is not that common .....for some.
BTW I think I may take you up on the a round or 3 ;)

I also have to thank Rancher for a similar offer, you guys and gals out there are very friendly and I am overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness. Nice to see that and very much appreciated please never change your ways :)

Membership had declined over several years but is increasing again but not near what it was pre registry. I think that with the Board of Directors elected for this year we will see another increase.
More members is always better, the facility has a lot of capacity available.

We have a BT 99 always available for American Trap, a gentleman whom runs the Junior programs has several semi's,singles, pumps & O/U's that can be sourced with enough notice ( great for private groups of novice or experienced shooters ). Various members including myself have several of our own guns we will lend to a newbie wanting to try their hand.
Do you own a shotgun ? What type ? Trap is a going away/rising target usually shot with longer barreled 12ga full chokes. Skeet is close range crossers incomers incoming shot with all gauges open chokes.

Quick note on ammo, lead shot only !!
2 3/4 " Target shells 1 1/8 oz max, Pellet size 7 1/2 or smaller.

The club may not have shells on hand for sale yet, best to go to WSS or Cabelas and buy a flat (10 boxes ) of shells as it is cheaper in the long run.

Last I heard there was still quite a bit of snow out there, and the website says its still closed. However according to their twitter account (@WpgTrapAndSkeet) this Saturday they're clearing the snow from the bunkers. So it might not be too long until we're shooting again.
 
Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh and thank you all for the info.

Answer: I have an O/U Tikka 12G and a Remington 870 12G (I am not even going to bother with the .410 tube fed bolt action looks like a cooey for this)

What??? lead shot only :( damn I was going to use that new depleted uranium copper coated lead filled ammo...... (I am kidding) Ok good to know but I have never bought or seen #7.5 in steel.... I suppose they sell it in steel, never seen it and not buying it neither.
It looks like I should go drop into said store(s) and pick up a flat :)
I appreciate all the help/info very kind of you folks, hardly wait to meet in person so I can thank you personally!.... or to shoot the hell out of the sky... I mean clays .. I mean..ahhh NVM you know what I mean.
 
Yes we are planning to clear out snow Saturday. An email went out asking anyone who can to show up and help. It's been a looooonnnnnngggg winter and hopefully we will be open soon. I suggest anyone wanting to try it watch our website and we will post an opening date when the club is ready.

Ok well my time to share my experience after being at the Manitoba trap and skeet club:

Disclaimer: Keep in mind there was snow on the ground and not as nice as summer time.

Met Mr Planemaker (Very friendly individual and he has a cool dog.) also met the club Pres. (Ken) and chatted a bit, B.S'd a bit then got a walk around to see some of the different shooting disciplines there and met a bunch of friendly people who were all about helping each other out and offering advice or help if needed.
Shot one round of Trap with some coaching (Jerry) and he was also very friendly and helpful, did I mention he has one kick a** trap gun. It was interesting and new to me to learn the proper discipline in this style of shooting, I have shot clays in the back 40 or the bush before but never in this fashion so it was now a challenge to learn it completely different (Might call it proper but then again I had my own ideas of proper and I was wrong) It will take me a bit of getting used to this style/discipline of shooting to get in enough practice (Fancy word for waste more money on ammo).
All in all I can not wait to go back and do it again, great bunch of people and a great set up,well worth going out and having a look.....might just have to get a membership (God knows it would be worth it to get one)

Note to self: - Buy more ammo
- Buy a membership
- Buy a new shotgun (Semi auto for wife)
