This seems like an interesting little rifle from Mannlicher, it looks a little clunky with the hi-cap magazine.

STEYR MANNLICHER is proud to present the first bolt action rifle in calibre .450 Marlin. Until today the .450 Marlin was only available in lever action or single shot rifles. Thanks to the new development from STEYR MANNLICHER, the MANNLICHER BIG BORE will be available with a
3+1 round magazine, and combined with the HC-Kit, with a 7+1 round magazine.

You are from the east and you think pump guns are ugly? Isn't that against some rule or something?

It looks better w/o the big magazine, IMO. I suspect it will be priced close to the Po-Hunter.

I think it is a good idea. The ammo is relatively cheap, and it would certainly throw anything in North America for a loop.

gross. Steyr rifles are accurate, and smooth..but they look like ####. A 450 is a 150 yard thumper...thats why Marlin and Browning chamber it in their lever actions. Only advantage of a bolt action (or the BLR for that matter) would be to use spitzers...but most 45 cal spitzers are 450-500 gr...thats why the 458 Win Mag is here

Hhhmmm, being that I am an owner of a Mauser in 458 American X 2 inch, I have one observation.

That ejection port looks/appears just a little short, for ejecting unfired 500 grain rounds
(lead & especially copper jacketed) out of the rifle's chamber.

What do you guys think?
Perhaps I am over-reacting....

Steyr .450 Marlin

I looked into one when they first came out...I quickly lost interest when I found out the price tag, that'll be $2100 please?!? I figured it would be much better to have one built, but then I totally lost interest;)

Considering I bought my FN Mauser with dies, 44 brass, and rifle for $400 total.
The cartridge is almost identical, & mine I can form brass from any casing based on the H&H magnum shell casing.

Tod mentioned pointy bullet options. I tried out Barnes X bullets, uncoated, 300 grain spire point.
Although they grouped woderfully at 100 yards, they had such a tremendous difference in point of impact, compared to any lead cored bullet...I ceased buying them for reloads.

Plus they are very $$$$...

I have a savage model 16 in 7mm WSM that I've been thinking about getting a new barrel fitted for in .450 Marlin just for something bigger to use in the woods. The cartridge dimensions are close to the same as the WSMs, so the magazine box and bolt face wouldn't need altering. Still just in the planning stage, but I think it would be fun to have, and the price of a new barrel is a heck of a lot less than $2100. Plus, I could still switch it back to 7mm whenever I want. Just another option if you're interested in a bolt-action .450.

Like others have said, i don't see any use for the expensive Euro-plastic .450 when there are so many nice .458 WM bolt guns around like the CZ 550/ZKK602 at half the price. The .458 WM can to loaded down to .450 Marlin levels(like I do) with 34 grs. of Sr4759, however the .450 can't be loaded to .458 levels. The beauty of the .450 and the .45/70 is the short handy lever guns that they are avail. in. If they don't lower the price, that gun, in that chambering, won't be around long.

gross. Steyr rifles are accurate, and smooth..but they look like s**t.

Not to mention the safety. Someone should catch a beating over that thing.

Could always just get a Stevens 200 in 300 WM, swap the barrel out for the 458 Win barrel that you can get from Brownells (comes with the nut and go gauge) and there you are for under $600.

Well..I am tempted to rebarrel my 6.5 Rem Mag 660 to 458X2 or 450 Marlin. You have two advantages over the Marlin.....1) 50,000PSI will give you 1-200 fps more speed and 2) Spitzer bullets the 300 Barnes Spitzer at 2400ft/sec would make a 250 yard load.

Only thing holding me back is the Browning BLR take-down in 450 Marlin. It has the same advantages and would likely cost about the same as the conversion.

Made a wildcat with the RUM case shortened to 2.1in,necked down to 458 and re-chambered in a Marlin lever with 22in barrel.

250 Barnes XFN over 66grs vvn130 gave 2604fps{338 W.mag?} and is easy to shoot.

300gr XFN,60grs n130 gives 2320fps,one hole @ 100yds and is load I shoot most. Recoil is there off bench.
RUM brass is so thick that with up to 20 loads in some cases, have not had to trim yet.
Next project will be to make short action bolt for this as accuracy with 300gr in a light lever action was beyond my expections by far.
Oh. Think Manson reamer and Hornady custom dies cost me around $200. Satisfaction....priceless.
