Hello all,

I have an unusual bolt head on my Mannlicher M-95 Stutzen Repairation rifle. It is not blued, it is lightly pitted/slight patina and was covered in grease. Oddest of all, it has a 4 digit number stamped into it... very odd!

I think likely it would be a repair part salvaged from another rifle. It's definitely not a date; the first rotating-bolt Mannlicher straight-pull was built in 1890.

Hope this helps.

They go in and out slick as slime on plywood. When you learn how to strip the bolt, just bend the extractor a little bit more than it is now. That will keep the bolthead from retracting as soon as you pull the bolt, making things much easier. Oddly enough, I think that is the only M95 that I never took apart. If I had, I would have tuned it up for you. Alas, so many rifles, so little time.........

A shame, but in any event, I got a chance to clean her myself. Not sure what you mean by bending the extractor, not something I would like to tinker with. When I pull on the bolt head, I was fighting spring tension and trying to rotate the bolt into the extractor space where it needed to sit, a real pain to do. I do not relish the idea of tinkering with it.

Yours,
D
