CGN,
I have a new Mannlicher rifle that had the typical M95 stock crack through the mag well area. So I ordered a new stock from Numrich. As always it arrived in a timely manner and I was set to do the swap but noticed the stock had a hole drilled into it like a Lee Enfield buttstock! I have 3 more so I checked them and no hole. I have never read anything about this being done. Was it a Bulgarian M95 thing? If anyone has any information on this I would be very appreciative. Or better yet check your stock and post the results!
Thank you.
The stocks, hole is on the far right stock.

Pretty standard markings on it that I saw. 2 serial numbers on it one marked out like many of the refurbished m95s. I did notice a little 2 in a circle below the serial numbers close to the butt plate.

The little 2 is visable below the serial numbers. I also noticed in picture 2 of my original post the new stock doesn't have that steel plate in front of the front action screw.

So those are the one i managed to remove the buttplate, got three more but the screw were stuck and i didnt want to risk slipping my screwdrive ans causing any kind of damage. Seems like none have a hollow buttstock. Those 5 range from bulgarian replacement stock to italian capture and original austrian so i dont know who would have done a hollow stock

Thanks for looking. I guess it’s a bit of a mystery, perhaps done in the field? It really appears to be machined into the stock not by hand drill or anything like that. I will keep looking online and if anyone else who reads this wants to check their M95 and post what you find we might be able to figure this out.
