manufactured before 1898 date

I'm wondering if the manufactured before 1898 date includes the year 1898 i have been looking at a derringer that was manufactured in 1898 and am unsure if i can import it or not.

It is manufactured before Jan. 1, 1898. How definite are the records as to the date of manufacture.

For some antique handguns, the frame manufacture date is considerably before the assembly date. It is the frame manufacture date that is the important one.

Thanks that's what i thought i think i will look for one a little older i don't want
to take the chance of it getting confiscated at the border.
