In addition to reading the CFSC (& eventually the CRFSC), I've also been investing quite a bit of time on the Net with various and random firearm (pistols) searches.

I took a near instant liking to the Norinco Sport two tone 1911, but followed up with some casual research to find finish and function comments that made me realize (once again) you get what you pay for. I additionally learnt they (along with SAM) are produced overseas. These findings made me broaden to manufacturers, history, success and so-forth based in North America.

So, I ask:

In an effort to familiarize myself with firearm manufacturers, I've started a list of companies and am slowly building a list of those to elliminate, and others to bank on when it eventually comes to my first purchase (course is set for April, would be pleased to have something by the summer).

As far away as I am from a purchase, I'd love to pick up an entry level 1911. I can't see many mods to it, and with a 22LR in the family to start with, a 9mm or .45ACP looks really interesting ( I can't see my price range ever going over $800).

Anything with comparisons of the companies building pistol firearms would be appreciated. A website or direction to something that has a review would be helpful. Feedback is always good too.
