Ok so I finally got my marauder stock as well as a brand new 10/22 for xmas and assembled it and have a few things to say about this setup. But before I do Let me start by saying that i am fairly new to guns and gun sports and this is the first time i have ever built a custom setup like this! I cant post photos of anything yet cause i dont know how so someone tell me please. Anyway, both sights came fairly easily off the barrell with the use of a hammer and punch and are in good condition, wich surprised me cause people say they destroyed theirs in the process. the marauder kit came apart easily and the extended mag release and bolt stop were easy to install with the use of videos on youtube, although once completed i think it would still be easy to do mag release and bolt stop mods just by looking at it.
After completion of all the stuff I though would be a hassle, it was time to put it all together. I put the barrel and reciever and all that in the stock and it seemed to fit well. put it all back together with screws and all, and installed the fake silencer. The thing that weirded me out about putting it on was that the groove on the fake silencer isnt big enough for the remaining sight housing on the barrel and required a hammer to put on, witch in turn shaved a little plastic off the groove. I think they made it like that cause it fits super tight and isnt going anywhere at all, so thats nice! put in the new mag and it locked in super nice, even from the first try. there is a certain way to put it in and pull it towards the mag release, but once i understood it, it clicked in everytime, so im pumped about that.
The next day i took it into the woods to try it out, and to sight in the vortex strikefire that i mounted on it, also a xmas present! shot at bunch of cans trying to sight it in and had problems getting the dot anywhere near where the bullets were hitting. In the end it was because i was turning it the wrong way, rooky mistake i guess! Once i figured that out and sighted it for 50 yards or so no can was safe! The kit and mag performed flawlessly and i had zero ftf or fte from the get go. not even once the whole time i shot it did it jam or fail in anyway, and i must have shot 400 rounds that day. The ammo was bulk federal hollowpoint, and a little bit of high velocity 40 grain winchester. One thing i did notice that was it was a little tougher getting the mag locked in when the magazine was full of ammo, not sure what that was all about.
my final thoughts are that this kit, and the gun itself, seem to be pretty awesome so far, and despite everything i read about problems people have had with ruger 10/22's and the marauder kit, and the combination of the two, I am really happy to report that I have not had any problems at all so far, and if a total noob like me can do a build like this, than anyone can!
