Has anyone used Marine-tex before or can give any input on whether or not it would be a good bedding compound? I'm going to be using it for both wood and synthetic stocks.

I'm not a gunsmith, but did there was a survey of top gunsmiths through Precision Shooting magazine and Marine Tex was rated tops. Have used this myself and it's high quality.

Done quite a few with marinetex.

It is an impressive epoxy when mixed precisely to instructions. Not so much so if you err a bit on the hardener proportions. Sensitive.

You can either use the powder scale to weigh out the proportions, or, mix all of both containers then toss out the surplus. Stir the crap out'ta the mix before using, you've got plenty of time to fiddle about 'afore she begins to cure. I often do two rifles with a full container then toss, its fast and reliable, if a bit wastefull.

If you invert the gun while waiting for the cure there will be few or no bubbles in the finished job.

Any places more than 2-3mm thick will show a bit of shrinkage after the cure. A second 'skim' coat may be required in critical spots like lug and tang, for perfect results.

I use Esquire neutral shoe polish buffed for release agent, and remove/replace the action screws at the 4-6 hour point, just to be sure.

Marine-Tex is what I use for bedding most stocks any more. Use Acraglass with dye in it to match the wood, when trying to bed wood stocks that have large gaps exposed that need to be filled.

I've use Marine Tex and I find it to be a little more viscous than Devcon Steel. Marine Tex has been excellent to work with I've was able bed several rifles with it. I would recommend it as well as Devcon. I find Devcon's dried finish a little more grittier than MarineTex due to the metal particles. Both are solid.

I've read so much about Marine Tex that I want to try it for myself. Does anyone know where I could find it around the Vancouver area? I've never seen it any hardware stores.

Industrial Paint and Plastics in Langley (56th and Production) has it. So will any of the Steveston Marine.

Devcon Plastic Steel is available at any Acklands-Grainger as well and is a bit cheaper.
