I priced out Devcon today at Acklands to do a bedding job :eek: $102/lb plus tax for the SS and even more for the Titanium.

Anyone know if Marine Tex is carried by a chain of some sort and what it runs in price?

Tisk tisk tisk cyanide you go out and ask children serious questions? I asked the same question last night and wrote a very suck up and polite E Mail to the horses mouth. Low and behold I have the answer to your question. Like most gunsmiths I am arrogant, self centered, ornery and I smell bad. But I have never been accused of not sharing. Here it is, knock yourself out. ;o) Rod

Subject: Marine Tex in Edmonton Alberta Canada

I have learned that several companies have been using your products for bedding and repairing fibreglass gun stocks. We have been using accra glass for years but the problem is the shipping from Brownells in the USA. Dangerous goods you understand. Buying the hobby kits from sporting goods stores is not cost effective. We use it by the gallon not the ounce. I have been trying to find a distributor for your products but to no avail. I don’t suppose being 821 kilometres from the ocean would have anything to do with that? But, what ever. Can you tell me if you have anyone in Edmonton Alberta Canada that sells or distributes your products? I suppose more specifically your epoxy putty’s. Thank you. Rod Henrickson

Good morning, Rod.
Thank you for your interest in Marine-Tex products.
The Marine-Tex putty is a product that has a very good reputation in the Marine industry and has been around for more than 50 years.
It is distributed in Canada through Payne's Marine Group, Canada's largest distributor. They do not sell directly to the public, but they
have a fabulous web site that goes into great detail as to who they sell to. Go to www.paynesmarine.com and click on dealers. This
will list all of the dealers by province.
I have attached the information from the Payne’s website about a marine dealer located in Edmonton.
Boat Craft, 6316 106 Street, T6H 2V3
Ph: 780-437-4919, Fax: 780-433-4373
Email: sales@boatcraft.com, www.boatcraft.com
Gallon units are harder to come by in the distribution chain. The largest kit you might find would be the quart size.
Please feel free to contact us at any time if you have any further questions or if we can be of further assistance.

Thank you and best regards.
Sincerely,

Great info. I will check out the website

Edit:
Well ####.....there happen to be 2 places here in Kamloops to get some :D YAY.

Thanks Rod, Much appreciated.

I have some Grey on order (should be here tomorrow)....how much is usually needed for a full bedding job if taking out 1/16" of material?

I have 2 - 2oz kits coming. I looked at the kit they had there in White and wasn't sure if one kit would be enough for a full bedding job. (Tang to Recoil Lug)

Last bedding job I tried (1st one) I had a few air pockets up the side and I want to know I have enough epoxy in the stock to fill all the voids it needs to fill.

I used JB weld on my other XR action but I have heard nothing but good things about Marine-Tex so I wanted to try it.

I bought a pound of devcon from greggs dist. i believe it was the 10110 version and was 30 bucks for the pound.
Well no wonder the stuff I looked at was so Expensive, I was looking at the Stainless Steel and Titanium impregnated stuff. I suppose if I go ask about the 10110 you mentioned it would be a bunch cheaper. I just checked out some places online and the 10110 is much less expensive than the 2 I was asking about

The price in the latest A-G catalogue is

Titanium Putty = $132.54/lb and

Steel Putty = $57.41
