How dose marine tex hold up in the Cold ? will it hold aluminum pillers in the Buck-a$$ minus weather? or will the aluminum shrink and let go? . I want to run an action piller strait through the stock with out using an escutcheon on the orther side, so the screw will just tighten up against the piller . Any problems with this?

The gunsmith that taught me how to bed an action said to always use a metal base putty. Whether it was Devcon Titanium putty or the two part Loctite steel putty the metal base gave the bedding the strenght and stability that was needed.

I just want to be sure thet no escutcheon is needed as when the action is tightend down to the piller the screw will be tightend directly to the piller. The only thing that is holding the piller to the stock is the marine tex ,The pillers are groved as well for extra grip .
So this is good to go ,lets say walking in -15? no shrinkage, piller wont loosen out or let go ?

People have reported alum letting go. Contact Marine tex and ask them what their thermal properties are and compare them to aluminum. If they are very close, likely not an issue especially if you groove the pillar so you have mechanical lock. Cut a few troughs 90 degree to lock it from rotation.

Probably better to use Devcon with Al. but I believe there are still significant differences.

In this case you might want to pour a solid pillar from devcon. Do it in stages to minimize shrinkage.

Devcon is what I use, both aluminium and steel putty and I have never had any problems, the rifles have hunted down to -30c.

Marinetex is what the US Marine Corps armourers use to bed there M40 sniper rifles, so I'm pretty confident it'll hold up to most weather!
