MARK II 17 HMR · BVSS Savage

I posted this in the Gunsmithing forum... but figured someone here might be able to help

I have a MARK II 17 HMR · BVSS Savage. overall I'm not impressed with the finish, bullet feed and trigger pull... I'll expand:
The finish: the reciever has deep milling marks from when it was bored... I think with some light sandpaper and a dowl on a drill I could smooth it out.
Bullet feed: the mag is a little loose so it sits low in the reciever. this causes the bullets to drive into the chamber. holding the mag up fixes this!
trigger pull: VERY heavy!! I haven't taken it apart yet to see if there is any adjustment in there. (not an accutrigger)
This thing is a fun tackdriver plus the wife likes to shoot it so I'd like to try to fix it rather than getting rid of it. Any input or advice on any of these isuues would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Yep, not too impressed with my savage BVSS 17hmr either. If I was forman at their machine shop heads would roll.
The whole breach looks like it was machined with broken turning inserts. The bolt itself has bad machining marks and huge burrs underneath.
Bolt slides very rough. And no idea if I could polish it enough to fix it.

But it is a tack driver also. Just embarrased to show it to anybody.

My .17HMR BV has some of the deep tooling marks on the reciever as well. The bolt looks good and operates pretty smoothly. The Savages may not look all that great but they sure do shoot good. The mag that was issued with my Savage works flawlessly but the other two I bought needed some tweeking. I found they were too tight and i bent the guide lips on the back of the mag out a wee bit to loosen them and now they are about 98%. Try bending the guide lips in a bit to tighten them up a bit and see if that helps.
