One has a wood stock (Mark 2 G) and one has a synthetic stock (Mark 2 F). The F is a little cheaper and has a free floating barrel. Not sure if the G is free floated. It didn't seem to be when I looked at it in the store, but I could be mistaken. Thats about it.
Also the Mark II F is a tad lighter, say about a half pound.
Sites on both are somewhat primitive, but the receiver is grooved for mounting a scope. BTW, the picture of the Mark II F is wrong on Savages web site. You'd think they'd catch that.
My buddy bought one a mark II G last Friday. Lot of gun for little money, and it liked dyanapoints and Lapua supe club.
Now if only Savage could learn to make a decent mag.....or at least take the sharp edges off.
I bought the II F, only because it is half a pound lighter than the wood stock, and my son is using it, so the lighter the beter. It is scoped and is quite a good shooter. Like the Accutrigger alot.
Just checked Savage web site - looks like they posted same picture for f and fv models - I believe FV is the only one with heavy barrel and short 5-round magazine. Regarding weight - I had to load up synthetic stock with epoxy and metal to make it heavier.
I was hoping to pick up a MarkII F yesterday but the knob (oops) I mean guy at wholesale told me it was discontinued. I told him its still in production according to Savage, he then tried to sell me on a semi that I didn't want. Went to S.I.R. and was in and out in 20 mins with a Marlin 925R + scope. Big thanks goes to MARIO.
Wholesale and SIR told me the same about the Mark II BV. (heavy barrel/laminate stock)I did find one at Elwood Epps after. I was talking to a local store here who was looking for one for me and they said Savage was still making them but wouldn't have any available until June sometime. It hasn't arrived yet but can't wait to try it out.
Mario's a good guy to deal with. If your at wholesale sports go to Wayne, I think he only works weekends. So far he's the most honest gun guy at any store I've delt with IMHO.
