I have a Mark V in and older fibreglass B&C stock that I would like to swap for an oem wood one. The price of used ones is quite high though. The other option is to go wirh a new Boyd's for alot less. What kind of quality difference is there between the two and will the Boyd's stock need fine tuning or extra inletting etc?

For what its worth I have always had good luck with Boyds stuff. I have had 3.
They are kinda heavy though. But everything I have read and experienced with them has been good.

There may be a few small spots you want to hit with some fine sand paper. Somethings the bolt cutout and small area like that can have a few little wood splinters. I think they cnc the inlet. Which would explain the slight imperfections.

I assume that you want a walnut stock...? Boyd's makes a good product for a reasonable price... if you are getting walnut, pay the extra for Claro ###... given the overall cost, it is a relative bargain. You should be able to drop your barrelled action right in and bolt it down, but you may want to have it bedded for better accuracy and consistency... particularly if your MK5 is a heavy hitter. I have purchased more than 100 stocks from Boyd's and have always been pleased with the product and the accuracy of the inletting... be sure to read the fitting notes carefully at the bottom of every stock option to ensure that you are ordering the correct stock.
