Im looking at a deactivated vickers 303 machine gun with tripod, water can, ammo can and belt. I want to make a fair offer. Does anybody own one of these or know what fair market value is?

Collector's Source just sold one (gun and tripod only) for $9000.

I would suggest in the $5000 to $8000 range would be fair. Bare bones gun and tripod would be at the lower end of that, and with some accessories then towards the upper of that range. If its a Cdn marked example, then you could possibly cross that higher number.

I bought mine during the crash of 2008. That was a good time to buy things like the PIAT, or the Vickers. Prices went way down, and interest was low.

The thing is, if you want one and there is one available, go for it. If you don't you'll always regret it. I recall brining mine home and opening the transit chest...oh baby!!

A friend of mine went to the Winnipeg gun show back around 1999. The show generally always had the same guys selling the same guns, but he had a feeling there was gong to be something there for him. Sure enough, Peter Kearns (Kearns and McMurchy) had come to Winnipeg and had a deactivated Vickers with Tripod and accessories for around $1200. He still has it.

Thanks a lot Sten Collector. I still have a spare PIAT trainer adapter plate? If you need one. This one is closer to 3 x what your friend paid in 1999 but still seems like a good price in todays market. Collectors source has a good selection of dewats but man are the prices sky high on a lot of them

Yes, certainly anything below 4K for a Vickers is a steal.

Collectors source can be high, but where else can you hit a "buy-it-now" button in Canada for a lot of the normally unobtainable collectables.

Bring your PIAT adapter down to the Calgary show (end of march rather than Easter, this year only) and we'll see what we can work out.

The 8mm Portuguese Vickers are just plain beautiful!
Everything all deep blue and the work with mg42 belts

Th Kearns and McMurchy store in Edmonton had hundreds of dewats, most if not all WW2 vintage. Bought some super nice enfields from them. I wonder what happened to all their dewats when they shut down? I have heard there was still a lot of inventory but never heard of any auction or liquidation sale.

I saw a bunch of those in 1969. You're absolutely right, if they're still in their storage crates. Like all firearms used in stressful conditions they get banged up and worn very quickly in the field.

The units I saw being used were awesomely reliable. I don't recall seeing one malfunction for any reason other than POOR ammunition. The crews using them, loved them. Easily maintained/consistently reliable and around 500 rounds per minute, so very controllable.

I'm not sure there was any liquidation sale. I went as their inventory started to dwindle. Despite winning their court case, customs still seized their next container. I talked with Peter in 2003 and at that time he thought the container was finally being released, although the business had shut down by then.

I bought a M1919 from them that had the suretee de Quebec evidence tag on it. Peter told me it was one of the ones that were actually in the courtroom. If I recall, there was a Vickers as well presented as evidence, and the judge even complimented it.

My Vickers still functions as a semi but I may be de-actvating it ...my wife loves it that's the only reason I haven't it's mint with a ton of accessories .I have dewatted an mg34,42 and a bren just waiting for the paperwork..I have givin up on ever being able to shoot them again ...too much money just sitting there doing nothing..sadly I just don't care anymore...
