Markham Gun Show - Sun Nov 24

Just went to the show wanting to get a decently priced No 4 magazine (my rifle has no mag). I regret going. Some typical prices:

Enfield mag: $60 with NO finish left. None whatsoever.
Longbranch 1950: $1200 (not DRCA, not in NOS condition, just your run of the mill used enfield)
Savage No4 enfield: $800 (Standard used condition)
SKS - Russian hardwood refurbs - $225-$250
Enfield Sporters: $175-$500 (most were in the $250 mark and wore the mark of bubba well)
k98 bayos (waffen stapmed) - ranged from $150-300
SVT bayo - $400

That said, there were regularly priced bayos, slings, antiques and swedes there.

Haha that's funny because I saw that enfield mag you mentioned...I thought $60 isnt too bad...then did a double take...nvm.

As for the enfield prices they were a tad absurd...gotta love a bayo that is double the price of the rifle it is meant for.

Only thing I picked up was some mix match 8mm mauser ammo for a good price.

We just returned from the Paris Gun Auction. I'm no expert, but it appeared to suffer from the same malaise. I was considering an enfield, but there were multiple bidders for all of them. SKS's without any goody bags went for $250 - plus tax plus 10% buyer's premium. they're available online for <$200.

A crate of 7.62X39 ammo went for $250 (plus tax plus stripper clips). Similiar crate's available online for $200 plus about $45shipping (without the $20 buyer's premium).

Though we picked up the first crate of 7.62X39 ammo on stripper clips for $200. That I think was a good deal, perhaps the best deal of the day.

He sold all the ones he had. That was a new shipment. He was sold out of them for at least a month or so. Best prices I've seen on Swedish Mausers for a while.($250) Most get posted on this site for $300 or better and they aren't in any better shape. I will likely get one at the Orangeville show if he still has any.

I bought a Spanish Mauser cavalry carbine for $175. Stock had been chopped at the front but I didn't care as I wanted it for a project. Can't believe how light it is.Just over 5 lbs.

I agree some guys are rediculous with what they are asking for things but depending on what you are looking for there can be a good deal here and there. Besides it gets you out of the house for a few hours to look at and talk about guns. All good in my books .....

I was at both the Elmira show and the Paris Auction on Saturday.

The Elmira show was pretty poor IMHO. V. small. Took me less than 1/2 hour to go through it all.

Malaise indeed describes the Paris Auction, although I did get a excellent condition Winchester 2200 for $250 OTD. A bit of a surprise as I wasn't that interested in it but seems no one wanted it that bad. I must be happy enough as I can't stop admiring it. I thought some of the Enfields were not bad, I brought my 303 snap caps to check barrels and some of the nicer barrels sporterized went for $220 OTD. I was surprised that the snap cap slip easily in some of barrels they listed as "Very Good" while a couple "Good" barrels seemed much better. There was a Garand that went for $740 OTD. I didn't stick around for the ammo and junk portion.
