I just picked up a Marlin 1894c in .357 magnum. The sights are okay but I think I would prefer a rear peep sight. Are there any combination rear peep sight and rails available in Canada? If not can can any one recommended just a basic peep sight?

A basic Marbles tang sight might suit your needs. Perhaps the Marbles Bullseye sight? This one fits into the rear sight notch on the barrel. Or Williams? Then there's Skinner, XS, Ranger Point, and Wild West Guns, if you have deeper pockets. Ranger Point does make a combination picatinny rail/ghost ring sight. But, I don't believe one that fits the '94. Model 336. 1895, yes. Also pricey. Hope this helps.

Edit: Just took a quick look at the Williams site. Williams does build a combo picatinny/rear peep sight. Called the : "Ace in the Hole" May be worth a look.

I also agree with KaneZor....Skinner is the way to go. Very rugged sights.

XS Sights makes a scope mount and a peep sight that can be attached. They also do a scout scope mount that anchors in the dovetail for the factory rear sight and in the forward two of the four screw holes factory tapped on the action. That leaves room at the rear of the action for a Williams or Lyman peep sight.

So far I haven't justified the expense of trying one of these solutions, much as I like a peep sight. My 1894 has the original sights and a Weaver mount base on the action with a Weaver Classic V3 in Weaver top mount quick detach rings. I can shoot with both eyes open, and 3x is enough for anything at ranges that are long for .44Magnum.

Before you spend your cash, decide what kind of shooting your going to do with the gun. Aperture opening size must increase the further you get from your eyeball. A "tang mounted" small aperture sight will be more appropriate and useful for any precision shooting such as lever gun silhouette. The front bead sight will fill a small aperture sight picture entirely if installed on the receiver or barrel.
The large aperture sights such as Skinner's that mount far forward of your eyeball are very adequate and quick to use for large targets such as a hunting environment would provide or large gongs at distance.

+1 for skinner if you want peep sights. XS makes good ghost rings plus you can add a scout rail and mount a red dot or lone eye relief scope.

I used a Williams Foolproof for decades on a 444 Marlin. Very happy with the simplicity and adjustability for sight in. I've had similar success with Lyman receiver sights. I tried scoping the 444 but just hated how the lever gun hand carried so went back to full-time peep.

I like the Williams FP on my Marlin 1895 but have two Skinner sights ( one on a Marlin 1894 and one on a Winchester M70). Skinner is great. Ships fast direct from the manufacturer and looks/works perfect.

I put a rear Skinner sight on mine. It allows you to use the original front sight and also keep the original rear sight on also. Works great! If you PM me a email address I can send you pictures if you want.

Luckybeer that 's a useful tip. I like the hooded front on the Marlin 1894 and if I were to go with an aftermarket rear peep or ghost rings I would prefer one that works with the original front.

I put an Ashley XS peep on my Marlin 94, had to put a taller front sight to make it work.
It turned out great!
I also bought a Skinner, Wich sitts lower, and is well built as a back up.
These 2 options work really well.
