Hello all,

I just purchased a Ruger GP100 in 357. Still smiling... I thought I would add a lever action in 357 for the range. I called the Calgary Wholesale Sports and asked if they had any of the Marlin 1894C's in stock. The gentlemen, sorry can't remember the name, said that he had 10 but they had been sent back on a recall.

Has anyone heard about the 1894's being recalled? And if so, what is the recall about? Thanks in advance for the help.

Well, all the guys who have been having trouble with the newer Marlins are gonna love this one.

They probably used smoothbore plastic barrels chambered for 20mm cannon shells, but marked .25acp

Not recalls , just Remingrton f**ks ups on Marlins coming out. Remington now calls them recalls. Some retailers are now refusing to sell newer guns until the f**k ups are fixed. Way,way to many problems coming out of the factorys to list. If you can buy a pre Dec. 2010 and back Marlin you'll be fine, other wise stay way. I'm just so glad I got my two Marlins before all this stuff started coming out.

I just bought my LAST Marlin rifle.

I just purchased a brand new Marlin 1894 SS in 44 mag from Williams Arms in Port Perry on Thursday. I picked up a few boxes of shells to go with it and went to the range on Sunday. My gun doesn't work :( Brand F*&King new and it will not chamber a round properly.

The lever has almost 1/2" of side ways jiggle when opened at the bottlom of the loop, when closing the lever the elevator will raise the shell to the chamber and the shell will bind up as it's being fed in crooked. If I let the lever bacck down a hair then up the round will chamber but it requires a double tap of the lever for each round. If I raise the lever with slight pressure on the side it will jam solid, slight pressure on the other side of the lever and it's smooth as butter.

I called Gravel and they are well aware of the issue, they sending me the waranty info to send the gun back to them.

This sucks. A new gun should funtion as new.

I have a 1894 Marlin Cowboy in .357 Mag...it is a great Carbine. Other than one minor problem with the front magazine holder becoming loose, fixed by Marlin with no issues at all, with a 2 week turnaround. I bought mine in March 2010. i would never part with it.

take the plung. I am extremely happy with mine

I bought a 1894 Cowboy in .44 mag. The dovetail for the rear sight was cut crooked, rendering the sights useless. I was put in touch with the Canadian company who does Marlin warranty work in February of 2010 and they said they were ordering a replacement. I checked in every once in a while and was repeatedly told the new guns were held up by the US and not in Canada yet. As of today I have not heard back from anyone. I mounted a Skinner Sights peep and am happy with it. My hunting partner had the same crooked dovetail issue on a new 1894 .44 and a 336 GBL 30-30. I truly hate to say it, because I have a couple Marlins I absolutely love, but I am done buying from Marlin. My hunting partner has an extensive Marlin collection and he wont buy one unless the serial numer is old enough to predate these issues. I hope this isn't the beginning of the end.

I am with Vega on this one , Reminton does not give a darn ,
it is run by the bean counters, and you know stupid they can be.
This one reason I just deal nice old stuff, when they gave a damn.

Cerebus/Remington has no idea how much damage they are doing to their name right now.

I doubt they care. 870 Express have been leaving the factory in unworking condition for years now. It has somehow become acceptable to some consumers to actually finish the chambers on said guns to make them work.

Remington is a on a huge downslide, but the sheer size of the corporation behind it, and its reputation will keep it alive for a long time.

Update, I got my 1894 working as it should. I missed the drop off time at the depot and had to keep the gun another night. I spent a little time going over my feed issues and found a rough burr on the bottom of the chamber mouth. I cleaned this off and polished the chamber and also lightened up the extractor spring. Everything cycles as it should now. I'm going to put a few boxes of shells through it before I rant anymore.

My issue was actually the extractor more than the burr. The spring was so stiff, instead of the rim locking under the extractor it was pushing the shell forward with the extractor instead of the bolt face. This was causing the shell to kick sideways a bit entering the chamber on a slight angle. I found a good write up on "Marlin Owners" and performed the tweaks advised with sucess.

I recently bought a Marlin 336Y. When I got it home, I gave it a once over and found the buttstock poorly fitted, mag tube canted and loose, barrel canted the opposite of the mag tube and barrel bands that had stripped screws that where touched up with black paint. It fed poorly, was tough to cycle and had sharp edges on the lever. I sent it back to Gravel and they notified me last week that on top of my complaints, the headspace was out and 'not correctable'. I'm now waiting for new stock to replace it.

Funny thing.
How many times do we read on here of people complaining about the "high" prices on the EE? They invariably end their rant by saying, "Why would anyone pay that much for a used rifle, when they can get a new one for not much more money?"
Well, I can tell them why. Marlin lever actions have been performing virtually flawlessly for over a hundred years, until the last about three years!

So true.
Too bad it is this way.
I choose not to own a Remington regardless of firearm.

I sent back my 336 some months ago, I recently talked to the gravel agency to see when I would get it back. I was told that my rifle was scheduled to be destroyed (no surprise! Jammed whenever you looked at it and it had bad headspace!) and that they would be sending me a new one to replace it.....heres the fun part, they said that remington has stopped all production on the marlin levers to try and figure out why they are having so many problems. They will be renewing production in 4-6 weeks (supposedly), then once they ship the gravel agency some new guns they'll be sending out these new, supposedly better production rifles out.

Theres gonna be a bit more of a wait for a replacement, but, fingers crossed, maybe they'll actually fix the production problems?

At least, I can dream!
