I have a Marlin 1894 in .44 Mag that I would like to mount a scope on.
It is a Bushnell Trophy Red dot.
The question I have is can I put the mount on using just 2 holes? It is a weaver 63B base. There are four holes on one end and two on the other.
If I turn it around and line up two of the four holes with the front two holes on the rifle, the base will hang out over the barrel, but I will be able to mount the scope ahead farther in a kind of scout fashion.
Will this give enough support for the base as it is a pretty light scope?
Or it it just a bad idea in general?
Here are some pics of what I mean. Everything is just loose fitted.
