Can anyone provide me with the name of a manufaturer of high quality, no nonsense rear sights for the 95's? Ideally, a safari style sight like you find on the Ruger Hawkeye .375's would be nice. I'm familier with XS, but I prefer conventional leaf type sights over ghost rings. Somthing that will either drift onto the barrels dovetail, or screw onto the reciever. Tang sights or peeps like the Lyman aren't my cup of tea either. Anyone?

What's not to like?

Williams does a "Britisher" notch (shallow V) for their rear sights if you don't mind aluminum.

Marbles (marblearms.com/sights/universal.html) also does an all-steel adjustable rear sight.

Otherwise New England Custom Gun (newenglandcustomgun.com) has the real safari-style leaf sights. I've read good things about their Recknagel ("See-thru fiber optic sight with base", under "Misc.") open-frame fibre-optic rear sight. You'd then have to replace the 1895's front sight with one of their elevation-adjustable front sights, however as the Recknagel is fixed.

Well to be honest, it's not really about the looks. Adjustability is nice, and those sights certainly have that. But I'd rather have a tough as nails, chunk of steel with a slot cut with a hack saw over a delicate instrament that has the slightest chance of getting nailed by a tree that jumps me or an ignorant rock that gets in the way of me and the ground.

On a serious note ......... If you think those receiver sights are delicate instaments you need to take the first bus back from the moon. :)

XS Sights - I just mounted a set on my 1895 and they are SWEET. MUCH faster and more accurate the stock sights. Longer sight radius and much easier and faster to pick up.

The Shooting Edge has them - $120.

If this is the style of sight you want, buy one and have it custom fit to your rifle by a competent gunsmith. I don't think you are going to find a sight of that style that will go on any other way.

You can buy those sights from many places and in blanks as well for just such applications. Dave Fuller of Safari Arms in Calgary has some different variations of that style of sight in stock, but these are blanks and will require custom fitting. That also means that the "V" is filed according to the load you are going to shoot.

Thank you. :)
Sorry for the hijack. I aggree ....... those wide V sights are very good sights, nice looking and rugged.

Do youself a favour and buy an old Marlin 30/30 with a receiver sight and try one out. I think you'll be very pleased with the receiver sight system. I have used them for about 20 yrs w/o any problems at all. Don't forget, that is what alot of the old timers used before scopes became as dependable as they are now. :)

I have the Williams system on mine, it was cheap and easy to install. Target aquisition is quicker which makes sense on the 95's because they are best used in a short range woods hunting application.

Brockmans winged (protected) ghost ring rear sight that uses the two rear scope base mounting holes. He also has the proper sight blade to insert into your existing or a complete winged front, also available with a tritium insert as well.
