Marlin 1895 CB For Hunting

Hi All,



I found a really good deal on an unfired 1895 CB. Anyone ever hunt with one of these? I figure it might be a little bit unpleasant to lug around on account of the weight, but probably a good thing when amping up the 45-70. If nothing else, these guns sure are easy on the eyes...

I love mine! Haven't hunted anything with it yet as I just got it. I have owned 5-6 Marlin 1895's now and like this one the most:

Took a black bear with mine, and it did the trick beautifully. I have neve seen a bear shot that didnt run. Lines her up, squezeed the trigger, and he fell over and never moved an inch. No BS. It was a good shot, right behind the ear. I guess what I am saying is, I fricken love mine in the bush. Its a bit heavy and I havent found a sling set-up for it yet, so it can be a lot to lug around, but its a fantastic rifle.

30-30 as well, but have been discontinued for quite a while. I've only seen one 30-30 Cowboy in Canada. US-based Marlin owners were able to send their carbines into Marlin along with about $300 to get them converted to the Cowboy model --- how sweet that would be!
 
I have one that I have used mostly for deer in the bush and some long shots around beaver floods. It points very smoothly in a free hand shooting position and if you use the rear tang site and some practice, it can be shot at longer ranges. I use cast only in my as 400g which I have taken some deer out to 300yards with it.
