Quick question guys, what does the GBL stand for in the rifle model, Marlin 1895GBL?? The SBL, G and GS I know but
what does the GBL stand for??
Guide, Big Loop
Thanks for your help guys, and going from the response I got back from the inquiry I sent to Marlin, you're quite right. What threw me off track is an article in the recent vol.75/issue#2 edition of BC Outdoors. In it is an article by Mark Hoffman titled A Big Bore Bushwacker about the Marlin 1895SBL. Midway through pg. 63, he identifies it as the "Marlin 1895SBL (stainless black laminate)rifle"
. Until then, I would've 'thought' SBL would stand for Stainless Big Loop. That falls more in line with 1895G (guide) and 1895GS (guide stainless).
Oh well.......
Thinking back now, on my last inquiry to Marlin, I wish I had also asked them a question on one of my first Marlins and one that's been a great performer over the years. I have a Marlin 444S that has been VERY reliable on a number of Moose over the years. I 'may' have to send Marlin 'one more' letter of inquiry to find out, for sure, what the letter S in 444S stands for. An off hand guess would be the letter S stands for short mag tube.
possibly. Johnn,
Just to add to your inquisitive nature, I have the Marlin 1895 ABL 'Shot Show Special'. Any guesses?![]()
Sorry guy, but oh, a 'friend' of mine, I have a blued big loop with grey laminate. I should see it it says BL?

Accusport Big Loop. The distributor they did it as a special run for initially.
I didn't have the heart to send another inquiry to Marlin. I guess my 'google' quote wasn't really applicable
