Marlin 1895 GBL

:)Thanks for your help guys, and going from the response I got back from the inquiry I sent to Marlin, you're quite right. What threw me off track is an article in the recent vol.75/issue#2 edition of BC Outdoors. In it is an article by Mark Hoffman titled A Big Bore Bushwacker about the Marlin 1895SBL. Midway through pg. 63, he identifies it as the "Marlin 1895SBL (stainless black laminate)rifle" :confused:. Until then, I would've 'thought' SBL would stand for Stainless Big Loop. That falls more in line with 1895G (guide) and 1895GS (guide stainless).

UPDATE: ;) Curiosity got the best of me, so, to know for sure what the BL letters in some of the Marlin model designations stands for, I contacted them again. Marlin confirmed what a few of you posted to tell me previously in this thread. The BL letters in some of their model designations does stand for 'Big Loop'. SBL, stainless big loop and GBL, guide big loop.
:redface: Thinking back now, on my last inquiry to Marlin, I wish I had also asked them a question on one of my first Marlins and one that's been a great performer over the years. I have a Marlin 444S that has been VERY reliable on a number of Moose over the years. I 'may' have to send Marlin 'one more' letter of inquiry to find out, for sure, what the letter S in 444S stands for. An off hand guess would be the letter S stands for short mag tube. :redface: possibly.
OR, new info indicates the S in 444S 'could' possibly stand for Sporter.

Truthfully?? As one of my teachers, ;) a 'few' years back once told me, "You don't even have an inkling and there's 20 inklings to a clue". :redface: Sorry guy, but oh, a 'friend' of mine, ;) goes by name of google, indicates that from Marlin, ABL may stand for "Automatic Bed Leveling". :) Best I can do for you.
For my 444S, I now have been told, the S could stand for 'Sporter'

And, ;) just to help keep the confusion going, there is at least ;) one other 444 model,. The 444P. and, again, ;) to keep the confusion going, APPARENTLY, the P in the 444P model designates it as an "Outfitter" model. If so, :eek: Help me Lord!!

Going by the info I've received back from Marlin, I would 'guess' the model designation of yours is the same as my blued brown laminate big loop. GBL, Guide Big Loop. Marlin informed me, "The BL in our naming stands for Big Loop, however, most of our rifles that have big loop levers also have laminate stocks".
