I've been thinking about getting one of these for a while but I've heard quality has been an issue in the past. Anyone have one or experience with one.
 
I have one, apparently pre-Rem. Scout scope in QD rings, excellent iron sights, no functionality issues and very good accuracy. Not exactly a classic beauty, but otherwise a great gun.

+1 There was a 16" barrel special edition that I would like to get ahold of in 45-70 as well

I routered the forearm and drilled the stock, lightened it up and changed the balance nicely! This one is pre marlin tho.

I don't have that particular model of rifle, but do have other Marlins. I Have a brand new 336W (2012 model) and it is fantastic. I have heard they have worked out the QC issues and are now producing some fine firearms. I would not hesitate to get another if made after 2012.

I think that was the 1895STP Trapper Edition. Only 500 made, and last I looked (I think they're the ultimate in Bad Ass lever guns), I found a straight gripped one that had a $2,100 bid on it and it hadn't met reserve.

There was one on the EE a while back, for $900. I did everything I could but couldn't scrounge up the cash in the 9 seconds it took to sell.
 
I bought an sbl about 2 months ago,it's new,it's a remlin and it shows very nice workmanship. I did look at different guide guns over the last year or so but wasn't impressed with qc. I think those days are over and the ones coming out now are very nice. This one feeds flawlessly. Spent an hour or so polishing up action,added a Wild West trigger and shebang it's a keeper. Oh ya she shoots very well too.
 
Don't mean to hijack the thread but I'm looking at getting a gbl but how do I know the year it was manufactured? Is it stamped somewhere? Thanks guys

I bought a nice GBL from EPPS this summer, and I'll never let it go! I know that EPPS and a few other places would inspect theirs before listing them for sale, so they wouldn't let a lemon out the door. This was before Remington fixed their QC issues, though, so I would think that all of them on the market now should be pretty good. All I did to mine was add a set of Skinner Sights and make a buttstock shell carrier. I still have to slick up the action and lighten the stock a bit. Beautiful rifle.
 
Yep I bought my GBL at Epps. It was used, I asked if it was Pre-Rem, got kinda disappointed when he told me it was a Remlin, but then one of the other guys told me they were inspecting EVERY Remlin, new and used, before they left the building.
 
I have a Remlin 1895GS in 45-70 and love it! It goes with me everywhere. I just did some testing with the 400 grain Speer and she's accurate to boot. I am now a 45-70 addict ;)
