Hey guys soo I've been searching around ( I tried here but the search tool keeps coming up empty) online for scope mounts for my Marlin 1895 45/70, now I really like the look of the XS lever rail system but I'm concerned about it's aluminium construction and longevity. Is this a legitimate concern? Or would traditional steel rings be best? The scope I'm leaning hard towards is the nikkon pro staff played around with a bunch at the store and I liked that one the best. I'm still learning and pretty new so any help would be appreciated thanks

Leupold steel one piece base ..........I put a 4x Leupold on mine and can cut 1/2" groups with handloads in either 300gr HP or 350gr FN

I have had an XS rail on mine for years and it has never failed. And I use this rifle a lot.

Wicked boys thanks... I use my rifle a lot as well which is why I was wondering about the longevity of the XS system. I love the looks of it on the 1895 it's nice to know it's functional as well and not just good looking

Similar setup and testing results for me with a low power leupold scope.
The beauty is the bullets hit 2" high at 100 yards and at 200 yards you use the tip of the lower post thick part of the crosshair before it tappers and it's bang on .

My loads in a pre safety Marlin ..use only in strong 45-70 class guns......not MAX.......use at own risk Hornady 350gr /44gr IMR4198/Win brass/Fed LRP .504" 3 shot group @ 100 yards Hornady 300gr HP/54gr IMR3031/same brass + primer .536"3 shot group at 100 yards

I believe XS makes the rail that Marlin uses on the SBL? That is the ultimate solution; a long continuous pic rail that allows the use of standard scopes, scout scopes, red dots or anything else you desire,,,plus a fully-adjustable rear aperture sight in case you don't want any optic.
