Marlin 1895G 45/70 issues since spring layoffs at plant

Has anyone purchased a Marlin firearm and have had any issues since the manufacturing plant layed off there employees in March 2010. The reason I ask I am looking at purchasing a 45/70 gov and have heard that there were some faulty sight mounting and other small blemishs on ther firearms since the layoff and sale to Remington. Is there any truth to this statement? Is there any reason for concern?

Bought a 1895 June 20th. Works like a charm. Had a red dot ( don't crucify me ) and now has a low power scope on it, no issues sighting it in. That being said, It still has the marlin bullseye, so if the new ones don't then I have an older marlin.
 
Doc I don't really think you have anything to worry about. I bought a 336BL in July and have had no problems. Rifle was perfect right out of the box. The new factory rifles haven't really hit the market yet and may not till next year. There are alot of "North Haven" rifles around for sale so you're ok.

Every once and while a rifle may come out with a small problem but if you doa good overlook of it in the store you should be alright. Also if there is a problem, Marlin Canada ( the gravel agency) is great to work with. I've heard from many they look after you pretty good. So don't worry about it, to me it was just alot of here say ment to bad mouth Remington for shuting down the old plant.
 
Do you really want to keep the factory site anyways? I found it small and hard to use. Theres nice peep sites or fibre optics on the market. I got my GS about 2 years ago and so far its been fine.
 
The gun does have the Bullseye but just hope the quality control dept got a nice severence package so they wern't to disgruntled. I am sure two years ago QC were quite happy.
 
I received a 1895 Guide Gun from Cabelas in the summer after waiting 9 months. The action on mine was stiff and required some breaking in. Mine does not like to cycle Federal brass. Fit and finish is fair.

At the same time another follow on here received his and his would not cycle at all. His had to be sent back for an extractor repair. Theres a thread on here with the whole discussion.

I like to tinker with my toys so my 1895 GG is coming along at my own pace, but if I had higher expectations right out of the box I would have been more disappointed.
 
Thanks Kenny G2, I did notice the action was awfully stiff but the dealer said a few rounds and she'll loosen up. You don't want any jamming when faced with a Grizz when your out packing. I like my rifles working out of the box. I'll look for that thread.

I picked mine up a couple of years back and no complaints, other than I'd prefer a pistol grip stock and matching lever.

I got mine from that same batch and have had no problems with it. Shot a bit low and to the right but you can't blame that on the gun.

What he said! :) Plus I personally think they look nicer with pistol grips... This one started as a GG and look at it now!
