Hi I recently picked up a marlin lever action 336 got it for nothing because the bolt face is completely sheared of looks like some one tried to either force the wrong caliber round into it or to much of a load question is where here in canada can i get a new one and also should i fix it or bring it to a gunsmith first.

thanks Dave

Marlin

I would have a Gunsmith check it out first, before you put any money into it. The Marlin 336 locks up at the rear, where a block lifts and fits into the bolt when the lever is fully home.

If someone has fired the rifle with an overload, then it is quite possible the locking bolt or the bolt faces are damaged.

I would love to see a picture of the damage.

I see that there is a 336 in EE with Ramline plastic stocks. I bet you seel the stocks and the barrel to Rollernut the guy who post on your thread.

336 bolt problem

Sounds like a hot load or a jamming problem that was bubbaed. Even if you get a replacement bolt, you need to have the rifle checked for headspace and for any damage to the chamber and breech area. Is there a piece of the broken bolt inside the action somewhere? You said it was sheared. By all means lets a smith do the job. Gunsmith Bob.

Hi, you need to headspace the bolt. Also, you should check the bolt, locking lug, and receiver for signs of spalling. A quick magnaflux would work. Alternatively, sell me the rifle since I'm looking for a project 336 receiver.
