Marlin 308 lever

I was on the Marlin website today seen that they now have a 308Mx holds 5 rounds in the mag tube pre T&D for a scope 22" barrell side ejection. Price is app. 673.00 yanky's. Has anyone tried shooting one of these. Like to know if they are accurate and what distances. What kinda cycling does the gun have. The only thing I didn't like about what I read was that it has a rubber butt plate. Kinda bubbaish for a new gun I thought.

Just from what I remember from others' posts:
Excellent accuracy.
Stiffer recoil than some expected.
Marlin reliability: Excellent.
Kills game well.
Ammo can be a bit scarce in the middle of nowhere. That said, handloading will fix that. Ballistics are closer to .300 Savage than .308 Winchester. I assume you knew the rifle is in .308 MARLIN? It's a rimmed cartridge, basically the .307 Winchester with the shoulder set back a tenth of an inch to keep COAL down to spec. It seems to be catching on somewhat; I really hope it does. The LeverEvolution bullets are slated for release by Hornady this year as a component.
Thin rubber butt pads have been offered on factory rifles for 40 or 50 years. No news there, they work.
The 308MX is not exactly new, this is the second year for the rifle, third for the cartridge. Marlin's newer offering is the .338 Marlin, considerably more powerful.
I'd seriously love to own a .308 MX; I think it's quite practical, and if a bunch of fence-sitters like me will go out and buy them, they will catch on as they deserve to.

Along with the 308 MX rifle for $600+GST I bought 2 boxes of 308MX ammo for $19.99+GST at WSS in Calgary last fall. Seems like prices have gone up...

I paid $725. from SIR (Cabela's) for the .308 MXLR-Stainless Laminate last year. I do like the gun and was excited to hear about the .338 but now prices for the MXLR series are well over the $1000 mark and I haven't even seen a .338 yet. Ammo is or was in the mid $20. range. P&D in Edm. have the Hornady dies for the .308 as well. Although I did not use it for hunting last fall, I've put a couple hundred rd's down the pipe with no problems. Still don't know if I should have stuck with the open sights or not, sure was nice to carry without.

Has anyone seen a 338 in Alberta?? WSS's website doesn't show the rifle, however, WSS hasn't updated their site in quite some time.

No reloading data available as of yet.

I had a 308MX, never shot it past 50 yards but it shot well at that distance. Standard smooth Marlin lever, the new Hornady ammo is reasonably priced. Nice rifle but just didn't compete with my clip fed rifles for the type of hunting I do.

Bought a .308 MX in late 2007. Ran 120 factory loads thru the rifle, with very inconsistent shooting. Tried open sights, and a couple different scopes, with no luck. Finally got some reloading data from Hodgedon, and after a few different tries, found Varget to help to consistently shoot <1 inch, 5 shot groups at 100 yards. This gun also really likes to be cleaned often or I can't hit paper. Maybe it's a lemon, but I got it shooting now.

What will the availability of factory ammo be like in 5 or 10 years? I think that they are using a top secret powder ( unavailable to the public ) to get top velocities while keeping pressure below 47,000 psi so that there are no cycling issues with the lever action.
What loads are you using to get what velocities?
