Recently got a good deal on a Marlin 30a might be a 30as , I'm not near it now . Anyways it turned out to be too good , the barrel is pitted badly .anyone ever get a new tube put on one ?

Outside barrel pitting? Or in the rifling? How does it shoot? If it’s outside could have it repaired. If inside bit still shoots well don’t worry about it. If it doesn’t shoot worth a damn then maybe rebarrel or fire out to 35Remington

I got a new barrel out on a Marlin 1895. The barrel came from Numrich gun parts at a reasonable price and gunsmithing fees were reasonable as well.

Having said that if it is the rifling that is pitted I'd suggest shooting a box or two of ammo through it before making any decisions. About 20 years ago I bought a used Ruger #1V. 22-250 I brought it home from the gun shop and proceeded to shoot 1/2"groups. All was fine until I cleaned it. I was shocked that it was actually quite pitted inside the barrel. Getting back to the range the best it could do was 1.5" groups until it got fouled again. Once the fouling filled in the pitting, which took about 15 rounds, it was back to 1/2" groups. Your .30-30 might shoot well as it.

Its in the rifling . I couldn't get it to group worth a darn, my son was out shoting my with his 30/30 and I can't have that . I'll try a couple of boxes through it and see what happens .

Yep! One of the most underrated deer and bear bush guns produced.

I had Alvaan Petersen at the Rifle Ranch in Riverhurst, Saskatchewan, rebore two of them for me almost 50 years ago. One was a Marlin and the other a Model 94.

Both guns shot as good as any lever actions I ever had.

I had one done just because I wanted a modern scopeable 38-55 with no extra crossbolt safety.......1-16 twist Ron Smith in AB
