This is for sale. Anyone know the mfg date and was it popular in this caliber? Seller doesn't know the value and I don't want to insult him either. He's looking for a buyer. Bore looks good.

It's definitely a Marlin made (JM stamped) gun and the there was a fair amount chambered in the 32 win special so there is nothing rare about this gun. Great bush gun but unless you reload the ammo is going to be costly compared to the 30-30. I saw some today for $37 a box. That rifle seems to be selling anywhere from $500-$550

Bottom tang, under the lever is the serial numero.
Should be a letter too.
Need that to help your request.
Is the top drilled for a scope mount?

Pretty decent looking old gal.
No extra sling swivel holes either.
$350 would be a decent deal.
I'd want more if I had it for sale.
$500 would be in the ball park + -

A 32 special is worth less than a 30-30 or a .35 rem. IMHO.

I had an identical pair on my table a few gun shows back and the 32 Spl. sold right away, the 35 Rem, eventually came home and I gave it to a friend.
Every time someone at the show asked about it and I said " 35 Rem " they put it down and walked away.
That's just my experience.

Interesting. Id have guessed the 30 would be most popular, followed by a 35 and the 32 would be the least wanted one...

Although i could understand the 32 being desirable due to the fact you can get new rifles in 3030 and 35rem, but i don't think anyone still makes a 32.

As Looky noted, you can date it from the first letter of the serial number. Is the receiver top "waffled" or smooth matte and is it drilled for a scope base? If it has a pre '56 DOM and it is D&T'd it was likely done after market, Marlin didn't make D&T standard on the 336 til '56. The "waffle" top rifles have a following that might pay a bit of a premium. That said, I think it looks like a very nice, well treated example of what is probably an early to mid '50's 336RC with Ballard not Microgroove rifling. The wood is very nice, great figuring on the forearm. None of the screw heads looks to be gibbled and the blue is pretty good except for normal carry wear. IMO the 32 Win Spl is a great deer/bear Ontario woods/bush calibre. For me, it and the 35Rem have a certain old school cache.
