Wondering about the feasibility of having an older 1/2 mag 30-30 pre-crossbolt safety 336 re-bored to 38-55.Would the action need tweaking as the 30-30 was made from the latter brass? At least being factory d+t I can scope it with a low powered bush scope.I have several 30-30's and a fondness for the 38-55.

Many years ago, 1972, just after coming to the Yukon, we had taken a Model 94 and a Marlin in trade at Hougen's SportsLodge. Both were 30-30s and had ruined barrels. I sent them to Alvaan Petersen at The Rifle Ranch in Riverhurst, Saskatchewan, to rebore to 38-55.

Both fed, fired, extracted and ejected perfectly when we got them back. Not sure how much work he did on the feeding, but they both were flawless.

I read a lot of .32 specials were rebored due to wear with their 1-16 dual purpose BP/ smokeless rifling.

The problem may be finding a shop that will do that work in Canada. Let us know if you find someone. Ron Smith does it but he is backed up with a ton of work usually.
