I've got a Marlin 336 lever action in .30-30 that is a beautiful rifle. Looks brand new.

Any way, when the hammer is cocked the trigger is loose and sloppy. You can flap it back and forth about half an inch. Is this normal? Can it be fixed?

Darryl has it right. If it bugs you I have seen kits to hold the trigger back when cocked, but I'm betting you won't find it a hinderance once you get use to it.

Definately.
Look at the trigger, and the only thing you need to know about the trigger on a Winnie or marlin is grip the lever tight, and she'll go bang every time. ;)
I think that the Winchesters have a more crisp trigger, and I find them easier to work with. I havent seen the kits salty was talking about, but that rattle of the trigger is something that you'll never encounter in the bush.

You obviously haven't shot too many Marlins :p

Wild West Guns for Marlins - I wanna say I've seen them for Winchesters too but I can't remember where the hell...

bingo ;)

I never said they aren't fun to shoot, I love the girl! It's just such a gorgeous rifle and so much fun. I really just don't shoot it that much, ammo is too expensive for just rattling off rounds.

Might pick up some good match ammo and see what she can do.

Where are you buying rounds for the .30.30 that are expensive?

$16 - $18 a box around here. I thought that was cheap shooting for factory loads.

MInd you I've seen some in the $26 range as well.

I've seen 30-30 ammo for like $13 bucks in Walmart. If your a handloader, you can load cast bullets for real cheap

THats why I've never bothered buying dies for my 30-30. at 13 bucks a box for 150 gr PP's, and as well as they shoot, there is really no need IMHO.

................yup bingo. I have tried in vain to find a good load for a Win 94 pre 64 and nuthin shoots better than the 170 grain silver tips i can buy for 16 box a box.

actually, can you buy ammo in Kindersley?
You do realise this is rural Sask, right? Every gas station has ammo.

I'm stuck buying my .30-30 at the Canadian Tire in Kindersley or at home here from the Co-op. Not much for choice. I guess it isn't too expensive to shoot but I don't like taking it when we go hammering off thousands of rounds as. Too nice of a rifle.
