marlin 336 with no serial number

anybody run into this? i have a marlin 336 r.c. in 35 rem and trying to figure out how old it is but it has no serial number

nope, i did check the bolt and there is one there that was put on by hand

Around the 60/70's they switched the location of the serial number on the rear tang area ... so if an older rifle gets a that part of their tang replaced with a newer one, you end up with no serial number.

That very unusual. Pretty sure that it has to have had a serial number when manufactured to comply with ATF Regs.

The rifle serial number is on the bottom tang underneath the lever.

The receiver serial number is on the top tang, but only visible when the stock is removed.
