So I'm looking at purchasing a marlin 336C lever action 30-30 for a gun to go hunting with in the brush. So what I was wanin to know is how reliable is the marlin 336C because I don't want to be lined up with a nice moose and have the gun malfunction. So I guess my big question is would purchasing a marlin for a first gun be smart and a good investment.

#2 best selling sporting rifle in the U.S. Of all time just behind the Winchester 94. I don't think you have anything to worry about as far as it not functioning.

I have one in 30-30 and I love it. I suggest you buy a used one: it's going to be cheaper and more reliable with a better finish (if properly stored of course). They are heavier than synthetic/plastic black (around 8 lbs) gun but feel strong and well-balanced. If you like peep sights, skinner sights make the best looking in my opinion.

If you reload, you can also make cowboy loads for plinking at about 30 cents a round (shipping cost included)
