I bought my Marlin 1894 carbine 357magnum for a camp gun, great for packing in the back country or throw in the campers small closest to deal with 2 and 4 leged varmits up real close, also is an excellent gun to teach a new shooter with 38 special target loads. I have never had to shoot a pesky creature, but it has sent a 2 legged varmit on his way, in the far back roads of NWO once, glad I had it, and it will never leave my possesion, best load is 125 & 158 grain winchester hollow points with max load of bulleye, I installed an Ashley Outdoors (XS) peep sight, this way anyone can pick it up and fire easily even with very little firearms experiance. The gun did not handle light lead pointed bullets very accurately. Make sure you never put a 38 wadcutter in the magazine tube! cheers Dale Z!
