Finally I decide to buy a Marlin 39AS. Thank you all people who gave me excellent advices.

For the peepsight option, I plan to use the Lyman 66MC.

Question 1. Is the new factory stock 39AS drilled for mounting the 66MC?
Question 2. Do I need to replace the front sight to match the Lyman peep sight?

Thanks again.

I use the Williams. I would presume that the receivers are still drilled for side mounted sights.

Here is the Lyman

(yes, I linked directly but they won't ship anything to Canada)

For the front post, I don't remember (35+ years ago), but I believe the front sight is original because it still has the gold dot. I may have changed the sight hood to better frame the dot so the dot was in the centre when looking through the peep sight.

Thank you Sandroad. I could order the lyman directly from Lyman official website at the similar price. So how about the front sight? Do I need to change it to a matching front site for using the peep sight?

Thanks. I did a little research on this. It seems that the newer 39A is not drilled for side-mounted peep site. However, Williams gun sight making a FP model which can be mounted using the scope mounting hold on top of the receiver.

The problems is that williams would not ship to Canada. For Lyman 66MC, I will have to drill holes on the gun. Don't knwo which dealer in canada carry those Williams sights.

Western Gun Parts in Edmonton carries the Top Mount Williams FP Peeps. With this peep you simply use the two top scope mounting screw holes, no drilling required. The factory front sight on the Marlin works fine with the Williams Peep.

Thank you very much. That's a good news. I will check if they have online sale access.

An interesting observation. I was told that a number of years ago there was a "fun" match at my club that involved shooting at targets at ranges from 25 to 150m, from multiple positions (standing, kneeling, prone, bench, etc). There was only one class, and it was completely open to ANY rifle/sight/calibre combination. Highest score won.

The person who won the match was shooting a muzzleloader with peep sights. I understand it was the first and last time they held that competition. :D

BTW, you might need to get the trigger done on that Marlin. That is the one thing that tends to be a bit on the "rough" side.

You will need to call Western Gun Parts to order. You can search the net and get their phone number. They should have it in stock, and they will go for around $100 shipped, you will have it in less than a week.

Make sure to ask for the Top Mount model. You can look on the Williams website and get the model and ordering number for the top mount model.

Thanks. I sent a email today. No response yet. I will call them next week or during this weekend if they open.

Is the peep sight that good? I can not wait to order one.
To my surprize, my marlin is on the way and may be here early next week.
I ordered it last night online and WSS shipped it right the way. Super.

It is so funny how things go around. My first gun was Remington 870. My second one was Marlin 917 M-2. Then I joined CGN as RemingtonMarlin. Then I sold both of them.
Later, I bought another Rem 870.

Now with the order of the 39A, things are being normal again. Sweet.
