A buddy just purchased a Marlin .450. His options for optics/sights are a ghost ring, peep, or scope  .

If it were me, I'd put a ghost ring on it. I've got a Williams peep on my M94 in 30/30 and like it, but with this cannon, perhaps a ghost ring would be better? This rifle would be used primarily in the foothills of Alberta, medium cover.

What do you think?

Thanks.

I have williams peeps on my .450 and love them. good enough for 150yrd offhand moose slaying, unscrew the apature when you head into the thick stuff....

That give you lots of options, but a bit on the fugly side.
Good call on unscrewing the appature as needed! Thats probably the way for him to go.

Thanks

that is disgusting. a marlin is not an AR or other mall ninja POS. a rail like like that is like a crime against all that is leverguns.

Definatly ugly. Thats not the model I was referring to. These are much nicer.

I kind of figured that. I just had to post a pic of the uglyness. Do you know if they ship to Canada?

I don't know, i've never dealt with em before, just noticed their products.

I like the Lyman option, I use peep sights alot and being able to take the small aperture out and have a larger one avail. gives you alot of choice. The ghost ring sights have too large an aperture, which in itself is not bad as the eye can centre objects without you thinking of it, but, the front sight is to big/wide to provide precise aiming at any distance.

Thanks for the replys gents. It's looking like he'll shoot it with stock irons for a bit and then decide. He may find it's all he needs. I know I was more accurate with the stock iron sights on my 30/30 then I am with the Williams peep I have now. I haven't practiced that much yet though. Too many issues with other rifles.

I mounted Warne 2 piece nickle scope bases on the top of the reciever and when I don't have the scope on I quickly install an XS Ghost Ring Backup sight.

Excellent, accurate sight that I am considering buying again and installing on my T/C Contender carbine.

I have both the WWG sight and the Ashley with wings. I prefer the Ashley especially with the ring threaded for Williams inserts. While on the range I can put in a small peep for target work or load development but when I go into the field, out comes the insert and its exactly the same as the standard ring.

Either WWG or Ashley - you won't be disappointed.
