I want to buy a .22 for plinking but mainly to take to the range next year. I think it will be more convenient than my bolt .22's.

Anyway, I've pretty much narrowed it down to these two rifles. The Marlin I can get with a scope for $350 and the T/C scoped for $525. I'm leaning towards the Marlin right now since it looks like it will make a good shooter and it's cheaper.

Any particular advantage that the T/C might have over the Marlin? Thanks! :)

Sorry dont know about the T/C but the marlins are excelent rifles.
Ive got a 795 and find it very very very accurate. It rarely jams now
and is extremelly light weight even with a scope.
If you want a plinker i would look into a tube magazine so you dont have to load the clips. You blow a lot more ammo that way. better yet buy a
Remington 552 speedmaster

Thanks for posting guys! I've ruled out the T/C at this point; I still can't justify the extra cost with so many satisfied Marlin 7000 owners.

I usually take my Cooey 600 out to target shoot (an old but fine and accurate rifle) but cycling that bolt dozens or hundreds of times is distracting. ;) I had a 10/22 for years and never fired it once....then I sold it last year and now I want a semi-auto! :p

The Marlin is a good rifle for the price, I don't personally own one but I have handled one at gun shop. From what I've read about them, the majority of their owners like them and claim their quite accurate. I do own 2 T/C's, what I can tell you is what you get out of the box with them:
A nice reasonably light crisp trigger
A match grade barrel with a target crown and a match chamber
SS receiver, barrel, and trigger gaurd
A very nice quality composite monte carlo stock with a cheek piece, and a storage compartment for a mag thru the butt plate.
A rifle that balances really well and "feels" good in your hands.
A rifle that can consistantly shoot under 1/2" at 40 yds. with Dynapoints. (when I do my part)
To date I've had no function problems whatsoever
A lifetime warranty from T/C.

I believe you get what you pay for (epecially in today's world), what I suggest, if possible, is put the two rifles side by and handle them, I think you will find it's like comparing apples to oranges. Just my opinion (no offence meant).

I believe you would be very happy with the 7000, spend the extra on decent optics AND good mounts- you'll have a very accurate rifle for life..

Thanks for the T/C summary, Ross B.. Good info and very much what I was interested in.

I totally agree on actually handling the item. (Before I bought the aforementioned 10/22, I was sold on the Remington 597...until I picked it up. Felt terrible in my hands.)
