I've been toying with the idea of getting a 17 hmr for a while then I came across a Marlin 17 mach2 semi that is supposedly very reliable.
I had eye surgery and am trying to convert to opposite side shooting, tho still use both sides and find semis to be better at going back and forth.
And I just like semis for quick follow up shots.
Yes I realize performance isn't quite as good as 17hmr but if ammo is half the cost I can accept that.
Anybody have anything good or bad to say about the Marlin 717 let me know....
Even better where can I get one?;)

I had one in HM2. Nice lttle gun except for the trigger. Pretty heavy and not much you can do with it. I ended up giving it away and picked up a Savage with the accutrigger instaed.

You know, I've fought with the idea of getting one of these for a few years. The problem is...there are plenty of reports of this rifle firing out of battery, and the catastrophic results that follow. Everything I've read points to to issues of a dirty chamber, but do a little research on the subject and see what happens to one of these guns when it happens. What I was told (by a couple people who had them) is "clean it every 50-100 rounds and you shouldn't have any problem". Don't like the sound of that myself. So, why am I still considering one? :)

I think if Marlin (or someone aftermarket) got this sorted out, a 717 might top my rimfire wish list. I'm a huge fan of the 795 (contemplating a second one in stainless) and also..as of this past fall...a huge fan of 17M2. A 717 is a perfect marriage of the 2 and any of my (many) 795 mags would do double-duty with it. I had my 795 trigger re-worked, the bolt polished/smoothed-out..so I know it's possible with a 717. I ended-up choosing a Marlin 917M2 (bolt action, heavy barrel) and putting a Rifle Basix trigger in it. Terrific rifle. :) I know there is a 717 in the EE and I've been eyeballing it. Just not sure why I'd buy one at this point with a 17M2 that shoots as beautifully as my 917 does.

Still want one though.

I've read the good stuff...and not so good.
Its like everything else on the Internet I guess...
Didn't know there was one in EE tho.
Other concern I guess is ammo...hmr is everywhere,mach2 not so much.

can't tell where your from but my spies tell be you can get in at a few outlets in the Calgary area. And Prophet River (sponsor) usually has some although I'm not sure what thier stock is like at the moment.

On a side note i had one and used it for a few years. It was accurate and extremely fun to shoot. Sold it because i didn't have enough time to use it. Too many hobbies. Not enough time to enjoy them all!
