I have both. Both great. Basically the same gun but of course the Papoose takes down for easy storage. Both accurate. Papoose only comes in Stainless and is about $100. more. Buy both and sell the one you don't want later.

Also had the Model 60, the prettiest of the bunch with a Laminated stock but tube feed being a real PIA, I sold it. Holds lots of rounds though. Also found the trigger to be better on the 795/Papoose than on the 60.

Mags are easier. I have tube fed levers and pumps I prefer mags. I can stash either one in my truck. The papoose being easier to stash. Being the same action I just wondered if the take down would be as repeatable as the original. I just need to find one with centered sights

I have both, use the 795 more (slightly more accurate, better ergonomics).

But for a dedicated "throw behind the seat and always have it" truck gun? I'd go with the papoose. You'd be amazed at how much you can tuck into the provided case. Just a nice compact little package all around.

Also, I have a 3.5x scope on the Papoose, and find it holds zero between barrel installs.

The "Toxic Waste" candy tub holds just shy of 100 rounds loose ammo. Between the 3x 25 round mags, 4x 7 round mags, and the loose ammo, it's 200+ rounds at hand at any time.

795 is still compact, more affordable and really...the same gun as you know. I have 2 of them, one blued/one stainless. Love them both. I have nothing against the Papoose, I've only fired one once. Didn't feel comfortable to shoot, struck me as a bit of a novelty gun. I also think that if it's a truck gun, how handy is it to have to unzip, and set-up if you feel you need it quickly? Never really seemed to handy to me, but to each his own.

I have a Henry survival as well. I do a lot of tailgate parties so keeping a 22 in the truck is nice. I've shot both and just wondered if the take down was worth it? Do those pro mag work with the bolt hold open on the last shot?

The Promags have fed 100% reliable in both my Papoose and 795, but the last shot bolt hold pen does not work with them for some reason.

Thanks for all the replys. Once I find one locally with centered sights ill buy a 795

That could take a little time. lol The Achilles heel of the 795~Marlin must be in complete denial. I'm sure they get it right from time to time though, so worth a look. Mine were both destined to be scoped, so no biggie for me. I'm sure you're checking LB?

I had an earlier model Papoose. It could shoot amazingly tiny groups, unfortunately these groups would often be in a different location after each take-down and re-assembly cycle.

I have the earlier blued papoose and bought the newer stainless for dad last Christmas both great shooters .

For me a truck gun is for those might use it times which is anytime I leave the city! But I don't care to leave it in the truck when visiting over night , hotels.
I also don't want to have to explain every time (what am I hunting because of the rifle case or apparently my having to take a gun everywhere sickness) .
The Papoose fits in a gym bag ,backpack ,suitcase , even just rolled up in a towel ( usually this is my savage 24 camper special ) or if you aren't using any of these the case it comes in doesn't scream Gun! To the untrained eye.

I got a recent model Papoose and I'm very happy with it. I did go through 3 rifles in the store before finding one with the irons centered, but the one I got is very accurate. Holds zero when reassembled just fine.

It's noticeably smaller than my Ruger TD and slightly more accurate, although I have no complaints about the Ruger. Henry Survival definitely packs smaller, but mine isn't even close when it comes to accuracy.

Papoose should make an awesome truck gun.

Another vote for the papoose. I had a number of 22LR rifles and it is the only I kept. I love the takedown feature, the sights are very good and the build and mags are of excellent quality. I love that it is such a small package.
