Hey all,

Im in the market for a .22. Not looking for anything special (read expensive) but am looking for something accurate.

I was drawn to the Savage MKII-fv due to its price, and the fact that it has a heavy barrel, but then I got thinking that if it actually makes that much of a difference in the end. I mean, a guy is shooting a .22 after all, and it's not like you are trying to hit things at 400m with a .22lr.

So thats when I checked out the Marlin 795. Cheapest brand-new .22 I could find. But as it's a semi-auto, I wondered about the accuracy of that rifle.

All that being said, anyone have any experience with either rifle? How accurate are they? Does the heavy barrel in the savage really make a difference? Cheers -Cameron

The biggest thing with the heavy barrel is heat. If I shot as many rounds fast through the barrel of my savage as I did with my ruger it would probably melt the barrel. Well not really but you get the idea. My ruger with the heavy barrel heats up much slower and cools down much faster. I would go with the heavier barrel if you can.

But if you plan to shoot alot of off hand stuff the rifle can feel very heavy in a short amount of time with the big barrel.
