i have 2 Marlin 81 .22 rifles. They are deadly for target shooting. Gopher shooting out to 150yards has been a dream come true. I tried many different .22 confirmations and the newer stuff you can keep for someone that wants it. The 2 1940 Model 81s have proven themselves time after time. This last 10 days were busy as I shot over a brick each day and never a faulter. Cleaned only the bolt after 5000 rounds and continued shooting. Fantastic older guns and certainly my go to gopher gun from now on. buy with confidence as you are getting a gun worthy of praise both in the fields and when shooting paper.
The first rifle my step dad owned was a 81DL and I started shooting it at the ripe old age of 7yrs, it was funny to watch as I had to lean it over to get the tube out so I could load it as it was taller than I was. It accounted for many 1000's of gophers and jackrabbits over the yrs as I grew up and even now 50+ yrs later it is still my favorite tube fed rifle. When I was in thr RCAF we used to be able to get DND .22 at $5.00 a brick and we would spend the weekends shooting gophers for the local farmers. I had a Bushinell 3x9 put on it, head shots at 100 yds were normal for that rifle, it was incredibly accurate. BUY IT and enjoy
