just joined the 17 HMR club. sweeeeeet (yes this thread is useless with out pics - I'll post some in a bit.

I ended up choosing the Varmint heavy fluted stainless with grey laminated stock :).

The first thing I noticed was that it was LIGHT, that ruger 10/22T was a tank with its heavy barrel. I will be looking forward to packing a lighter rife.

the 10/22T will officially be going up for sale - I think. I hate to do it but after shooting my first 17 hmr I am convinced this is the way to go even if ammo is more expensive. Last night I shot 25 rounds sighting in and went home smiling. As I discover myself in shooting sport, I find I am enjoying shot placement / accuracy and distance. The 17 gets me out past 100 yards without bullet drop.

The trigger on the new 917 is somewhere around brutal compared to 10/22T , really makes you appreciate a good trigger. Did anyone buy the rifle basix trigger for their Marlin?

I only got a chance to start sighting it in last night at about 25 yards+ before the ravenous mosquitos ate me alive. The fact that the rifle is so light and the trigger is the way it is - leaves me a lot to improve on - shooting skill and modifications.

pics to follow

ps also what distance are you guys sighting your 17 grains in for?

i just replaced my stock trigger spring with one from a papermate pen then i shimmed the shides of the trigger to get rid of the side to side play that comes with the lighter spring now its a nice crisp light trigger.Ive had it like this for over a year noiw without any problems, just be sure to give it a bump test to make sure it wont go off on you when you first do it.

yeah by my pic you can see I didn;t get the greatest stock... Marlin quality out of the box.

yeah I heard about the pen spring trick - I might ante up the cash to stay safe with a designed product.

These 17s sound sweet without ear protection. :D they kind of sound like an AR when you are wearing it.

PC9 whered you get your trigger, its adjustable right? did you install it yourself?

Fed007,

Looks very nice! Which scope do you have on it?

I purchased a 917VSF last year and have been very happy with it. And like yours the T-900 trigger sucked, so I installed a Rifle Basix and it made a big difference. The RB trigger is adjustable and I purchased mine from Wholesale sports. I think I paid around $120 for it. It was easy to install.
If I remember correctly, mine is zeroed for 125 yards(I haven't shot it since last September).

Cheers!

The scope is the Mueller Eraticator 8x25x50 - its awesome - I am going to pick up one of those trigger kits for sure then.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to get out do some hunting. Now I have to find a way to part with my 10/22T which shoots pretty good in its own right.
